Living and working in one of Hawaii's most remote communities, I am currently concentrating on two bodies of work. Firstly, a series of small works on paper and canvas about Rayleigh scattering, the phenomenon causing the colorful skies at sunrise and sunset. And secondly, larger wall-sized paintings on raw canvas about the energetic signatures of my surroundings.
Alchemizing organic gesture with geometric abstraction in a call-and-response collaboration with nature. I use natural and traditional mediums while folding the canvas into forms and shapes. Leaving the canvas out in the elements to be exposed to the wind, rain, and sun. My practice alchemizes consciousness, the body, and the act of painting to connect with the land.
In a quickly changing world dominated by an AI takeover, self-driving cars, platforms, subscriptions, endless images and information, living in a thriving orchard nourishes my creative process and supports a holistic approach to art-making. Meditation, visualization, and the body as a sacred instrument that connects us to our surroundings are the foundations of my practice. Painting from a place without boundaries, where possibilities are limitless. My work shares a view of integrated harmony, a key component we need to promote in our current contemporary world.
